Rationales

A rationale is a structured document that an educator or librarian can use to defend a controversial book if a challenge is raised. It should contain publishing information, a brief summary of the book, professional reviews, awards, and discussion of the value of the book as well as its potential problems.  I have prepared rationales for three of Ibram X. Kendi's books for youth audiences. In the event of a challenge, these may be shared with administrators or Reconsideration Committee members to help give fuller context of the title in question. Click "Download" below each title to view its rationale!

“The only way to undo racism is to consistently identify and describe it — and then dismantle it.”
